Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Report- January 10, 2017- Murray’s Fly Shop Smallmouth Bass Streams:  A friend just caught several large bass in the ten foot deep water behind the dam. This is accessible by floating from access point #5 (Chapman’s Landing) just downstream from Edinburg. This is on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. There is also excellent deep water above the dam at access point #26 (Massanutten). This is on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Smallmouth Bass Fly Fishing Report Smallmouth Bass Streams I am getting my best smallmouth bass action by fishing streamers, while fishing these along the streambottom in the deepest pools. The Scientific Anglers Sonar Sink 30 Warm Tip Fly Line has a fast sinking thirty foot head sinking at four to eight inches per second. This therefore helps me swim my flies deeply. The 200 grain fly line cast smoothly on my Scott Radian 9 foot 7 weight fly rod.  I use my Murray’s Fluorocarbon  6 foot 2X Sinking Line Leader with this. Trout Fly Fishing Report- Murray’s Fly Shop- Edinburg, VirginiaMountain Trout Streams: The mountain trout streams are too cold for good fishing. Large Trout Streams and Delayed Harvest Streams: Some of the best fishing on these streams now is downstream of where the springs enter them.These springs are five to six degrees warmer than the main stream. The rich pH prompts excellent cress bug and shrimp growth.
