Excellent topwater action on your favorite rivers and lakes. Our guides approved!
The Bombshell Popper is designed to deliver a big meal with a big presence. Engineered with a perfectly cupped face and a balanced profile, this fly creates a hearty, deep-gurgling "chug" and spits water with every strip—perfectly mimicking a struggling baitfish, frog, or large terrestrial.
Whether you are casting into tight shoreline structure, popping over deep-water ledges, or drifting through active river currents, the Bombshell Popper is highly visible and highly effective. Our guides have had excellent success with this popper this summer on the Shenandoah River (especially in the early morning hours).
Why We Recommend:
-
Explosive Topwater Action: The deep cupped face moves a ton of water, creating irresistible sound and surface disturbance that coaxes stubborn smallmouth from their haunts.
-
Premium Durability: Built to withstand repeated, hard-hitting strikes.
-
Excellent Castability: Thoughtfully weighted to cut through the wind and lay down cleanly, letting you target tight pockets and overhanging banks with ease.
-
Imitative & Triggering: Features lively accents and rubber legs that keep moving even when paused, triggering strikes during the lull.
How to Fish It:
For peak smallmouth bass performance, cast the Bombshell Popper tight to structure—like log jams, boulder fields, or shaded banks. Let the rings settle completely before your first strip. Often, the biggest bass will strike on the initial pause. Retrieve with a series of sharp, rhythmic chugs followed by a brief 2-to-3-second pause to let the fly do its work. We recommend using a Murray's Bass Bug Leader 9ft 1X or 2X with the Bombshell Poppers.
