The mountain trout streams are full but there is good fishing if you come in the heads of the stream from Skyline Drive.
The South Fork of the Shenandoah River is too muddy for good fishing. The North Fork of the Shenandoah River is discolored but should be fishable by Saturday, April 29, 2017
Delayed Harvest and Stocked Trout Streams: We are getting good fishing on Big Stoney Creek West of Edinburg, Passage Creek and the Delayed Harvest section of Back Creek. Many of these carry-over trout are feeding very well on the natural mayflies that are hatching in the riffles. Effective flies are the Murray's Brown Drake size 14, Mr. Rapidan Dry size 14 and Mr. Rapidan Brown Soft Hackle Nymph size 14.
Murray's Professor Dry, Mr. Rapidan Parachute and Spirit of Pittsford Mills. Mountain Trout Streams: Take advantage of this great fishing by hiking into the heads of these streams from the Skyline Drive or Blue Ridge Parkway. Walk down a mile and fish your way back up the mountain. Effective flies are the Spirit of Pittsford Mills size 16, Murray's Professor Dry size 16 and Mr. Rapidan Parachute size 16.
